I’m Speaking at Adobe MAX

Well, not exactly Adobe MAX, I’ll be speaking at FITC Unconference @ Adobe MAX which is your normal FITC sessions that are a lot more technically inclined.  I’ll be talking about Agile Project and Delivery Integration;  Don’t miss this session if you work on large enterprise applications.

Hope to see some familiar faces there.

Interview With Val Head

While I was at FITC 2010 I took the opportunity to quickly interview some of Big Names in the industry and hopefully get a perspective from different people about the Adobe products and their line of work.  My first interview was with Val Head, Senior Designer & Developer at New Perspective in Pittsburgh, PA. She runs the Flashpitt conference and is co-manager of the Pittsburgh Adobe Flash User Group (PittMFUG).

Saffron is still alive!

Every year, I try to attend FITC Toronto to learn, play, network and recharge my creative battery.  There’s a lot of things that you can learn about the industry and the technology at this amazing conference.

Now, let’s do a small recap; in 2007, not long after the introduction of AIR, an ambitious project surfaced called Saffron.  This was a sexy Flash UML tool built with AIR that could be used to plan, architect and design large applications.  The creator, Samuel Agesilas, wasn’t talking much about details but he did show the Flash world a glimpse of his project.  Shortly after though, it had seemed that Samuel went completely offline.  Rumors started to surface that Samuel and his project was bought by Microsoft so that he can make a sexy, functional UML tool for Silverlight.  Nobody could confirm or deny it, Samuel wasn’t there to comment.

FITC Toronto 2009

As my first experience going to FITC, there’s only one word to describe it all.

Epic.

Considering the amount of people there (and surprisingly, a lot of females), the big names in the industry coming to it (Colin Moock, Grant Skinner, Ralph Hauwert to name a few), and the fun and knowledge being thrown around; it makes for one hell of a conference.

I was impressed with several of the new technology presentations like Scaleform (Flash Player within 3D games), Union (Easy to use and free multiuser framework) and PapervisionX (The latest papervision version using FP10 and Alchemy).  To see all these projects and new technologies being used is very exciting stuff.  Seeing what the future holds for people in this industry is nice since you can start learning now and expect it to become big in the near future.

I will definitely be at the next one, and hopefully one way I’ll be able to be a speaker for one of these events in my career.

Ottawa Adobe Flex Usergroup

Today was the first meeting of the flash/flex usergroup for Ottawa.  I completely forgot to write about this to get more people to come out.

We were a little under 20 that went, which is surprising since there was 250 Flexers that showed up at the Adobe Flash Camp a month prior.  Good news is that they were giving 10 FITC tickets, so the odds were good. I actually didn’t win, but a fellow Flexer said he already got his ticket so he gave me the one that he won; thanks Glen!

With that being said, I strongly suggest anyone in the flash/flex community (or even people just studying or interested) to come join us the first Wednesday of the next month (May  6th) for some free beer, some good presentations (including yours truely) and free gear.

Hope to see you there!
