Windows Phone 7 Impressions

Last night, I went to a Windows Phone 7 Developer event aptly name ‘Developer Happy Hour’ which was organized by the Flash New York Meetup.  We met at a bar where some Microsoft evangelists showed up with a few phones that we could play with.  Here are some of the impressions I got from talking to the employees and playing around with the phone.

Interview With Val Head

While I was at FITC 2010 I took the opportunity to quickly interview some of Big Names in the industry and hopefully get a perspective from different people about the Adobe products and their line of work.  My first interview was with Val Head, Senior Designer & Developer at New Perspective in Pittsburgh, PA. She runs the Flashpitt conference and is co-manager of the Pittsburgh Adobe Flash User Group (PittMFUG).

Addressing the Flash Haters

I’m an avid follower of Engadget, it’s my one stop site for electronic news.  Lately, it’s been going a little crazy over the whole “Apple vs Flash” (I say ‘Flash’ and not ‘Adobe’ cause they are not against the company, just one of their products).  A common trend I’ve been noticing is that no matter the background, there seems to be a lot of people bashing Flash.

Prepping Flash for War

Flash vs Silverlight vs HTML5; a no-holds barred grudge match is brewing in this industry.  It will divide developers and companies where there was little contention in the past.  I doubt that this will end in a fatality, but the injuries will most likely fall to Adobe because of its current dominance in the field.  Each technology has its pros and cons, and multiple providers can co-exist, but companies need a reason to choose one over another. I predict most of the debate will be based around the development process; ease of development, quick prototyping, effectiveness of tools offered, development environments, unit testing, system integration, as well as application design and planning. If a company can make great applications in less time, it means that they can make more money.
